SUBJECT: Burn Ban Issued
In accordance to City of DeLand ordinance 2008-21, and due to severe dry conditions, the Fire Chief is issuing an outdoor burn ban for incorporated area of the City of DeLand. Under the burn ban all outdoor burning, unless authorized by the Florida Division of Forestry, including, but not limited to, the burning of yard trash, household paper products, bonfires, campfires, warming fires, and cooking fires is hereby prohibited. Outdoor cooking done within a contained gas or charcoal grill (excluding a fire pit) is the only exception. The burn ban will be in effect until further notice.
The above notice will be posted on the City web site and other appropriate locations.

ORDINANCE NO. 2008 –21
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DELAND, FLORIDA, AMENDING CHAPTER 12 “FIRE PREVENTION” OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES; BY ADOPTING NEW SECTIONS 12-3 THROUGH 12-11 ENTITLED “OPEN BURNING IN RESIDENTIAL AREAS”; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
Sec. 12-10. Declaration of burn ban.
When drought situations occur constituting atmospheric conditions and local circumstances such that outdoor fires, if not properly contained and controlled, could lead to wild fires that would pose a severe threat to residents and visitors of the City of DeLand, then under the direction of the Fire Chief for the City of DeLand, all outdoor burning, unless authorized by the Florida Division of Forestry, including, but not limited to, the burning of yard trash, household paper products, bonfires, campfires, warming fires, and cooking fires is hereby prohibited. Outdoor cooking done within a contained gas or charcoal grill (excluding a fire pit) is the only exception.
