Duties and Responsibilities
The Building Department, which includes permitting and inspections is responsible for making sure that all new or improved structures meet state building code and local ordinance requirements. Work is divided into three major activities: permit processing, plans examination and construction inspection. Front counter personnel receive building permit applications, check contractors for required licenses, issue permits and maintain records. Plans are examined to ensure all construction meets the requirements of codes, regulations and other ordinances. Field inspections are conducted to assure all new improvements are being constructed in accordance with approved plans and all applicable construction codes.
